Having an unbiased designer on your side can lead to significant cost savings, better efficiency, and superior results for your cattle handling facility. Our expertise ensures your design meets your specific needs, with the option to use modular prefabricated components.
We partner with livestock producers, fencers, and yard builders to create exceptional handling systems. We understand the time pressures and challenges you face, so we provide high-quality 2D & 3D models, construction documentation, estimates, materials lists, procurement lists, cut lists, and even prefabricated components through our supply partners.
Custom Solutions
Can we work around your existing infrastructure? Absolutely. We thrive on the challenge of working with existing yards, difficult terrain, and tight spaces.

Why We Start with Circles
In our designs, we always begin with a circle. Why? Cows are prey animals and naturally circle to watch for threats. We use this instinct to move cattle efficiently with minimal human effort. Circles are also the most efficient shape, offering the most area for the least perimeter, giving you the best value for your investment.
Importance of a Roof
When it comes to cattle handling, a roof or cover is crucial for both animal welfare and operator comfort. We use shade modeling, based on your location, to ensure the roof provides effective shade year-round. Starting with detailed drawings helps you avoid unnecessary time, expense, and frustration.

Custom Design & Shop Drawings
We provide a complete range of design services, starting with concept design and moving through to construction documents, ensuring your stockyard is practical, cost-effective, and tailored to your specific needs.
Our Process
Initial Consultation
The first step is a conversation about your project. We’ll discuss what you want to build and where you need assistance. This initial chat is an opportunity to explore your ideas and receive expert feedback, allowing us to apply our practical knowledge to optimize your design and reduce costs.
Starting Your Project
To begin, we’ll need some essential information from you:
Location:
Share the location of your project site using Google Maps or by providing coordinates.
Drone Photos:
If possible, provide overhead drone shots of the site at the highest resolution available. Including a reference for scale, such as a building or objects set 6 metres apart, helps us better understand the area.
Ground Photos:
Take some photos of the site from different angles. These images help identify any obstacles, such as roads, power lines, buildings, and water points, ensuring we account for everything in the design.
Plans:
Sketch your initial ideas, whether you’re upgrading an existing stockyard or starting from scratch. Your drawings don’t need to be to scale, but the more detail you provide, the better. A simple overhead photo of your sketch will work.
Concept Design
Our design process begins with creating 2D sketches of your stockyard, which we then develop into 3D models. This stage forms our concept design service, providing a clear visualization of your project and allowing for early adjustments that save time and money. We invoice for this stage upfront, with payment due upon commencement.
Construction Drawings
After finalizing the concept design, we produce detailed construction drawings that include both 2D and 3D views. These documents make it easier to build, budget, and secure quotes from contractors, ensuring a smooth transition from design to construction. This stage is also invoiced individually with upfront payment required.
Bill of Materials (BOM)
As a final service, we can create a Bill of Materials (BOM) or materials takeoff, listing everything you’ll need to complete the project. This document is as accurate as the model and helps prevent unnecessary expenses during construction.
Post-Project Support
Once your project is complete, I’m here to support you. Whether you need additional drawings or have questions about the design, I’ll be available to ensure your stockyard functions as planned, with ongoing attention to cost-effectiveness.
Site Visits
We believe that face-to-face site visits can be an important part of the process, particularly when assessing complex sites. If you believe that the travel charges can be justified, we are more than happy to arrange a visit to your location.
Thank you for choosing Rumen Nation. We’re committed to delivering stockyard solutions that keep your livestock safe, your operations efficient, and your costs down.
